The Merlin Mini RTA by Augvape

Introduction – The Merlin Mini by Augvape

I’m not particularly familiar with the Chinese manufacture Augvape, or its range of atomizers and box mods!

In fact I’ll be totally honest and say that I’ve completely missed all of their previous releases.

So when the hype train started to gain momentum around Augvapes’ newest RTA release, I decided to buy myself a ticket and jump aboard the Augvape Merlin Mini express.

So, does the Merlin Mini warrant all of the recent hype or is it just another run of the mill RTA…….. let’s take a look and see!!

What’s In The Box

  • 1 x Merlin Mini RTA
  • 1 x Single coil build deck
  • 1 x Dual coil build deck
  • Spare Glass Tank
  • Bag of Spares

Features

  • Size 24mm Diameter x 42mm high
  • Liquid capacity 2.0ml
  • Constructed from 304 Stainless steel
  • 1 x 18mm Single coil deck (Pre-installed)
    • 2 x 2mm post holes squared

  • Bottom airflow holes 2 x 12mm

Build Quality & Design

When you first open the box, you wouldn’t be wrong in thinking that this RTA has a chrome finish.

It’s shiny, but quite simplistic in appearance with a very nice overall finish. There is the customary branding on the build deck outer barrel but it’s very discreet.

So, starting at the top, we have a low profile interchangeable black delrin driptip which can be easily removed and the top cap can happily accommodate most other styles of driptips.

The top section of the tank which can be unscrewed to reveal three generous sized filling ports.

I had absolutely no issues removing this as all threads where very smooth.

Next we have the tank section which primarily consists of a stainless steel top section and a bottom section incorporating airflow control.

Between both of these we have a glass barrel which form the tank.

Located inside the tank we have the build deck and outer housing with four juice inlet holes at its base and at the top there is a short chimney which screws directly into the top section of the RTA.

The base section of the Merlin Mini incorporate an airflow control ring which contains two elongated airholes each measuring approximately 12mm x 1.5mm.

The ring can easily be adjusted to the desire position with just the right amount of resistance for it to remain in place when set.

The Merlin Mini comes complete with two build decks!

The first is a dual coil velocity style deck which appears pretty standard for this type & style of popular deck.

There are the two posts, positive & negative, each with two 2.0mm x 2.5mm post holes and grub screws on the outer edge of the posts.

On the base of the deck there are two good sized airflow holes each measuring approximately 4.0mm x 2.5mm.

The remaining space around the airholes comprises of 4mm deep juice well with four 2.5mm diameter horizontal juice holes which correspond with the juice inlet holes on the build deck outer barrel.

The second deck for the Merlin Mini is, as mentioned earlier, a single coil velocity style deck, but with a slight difference to standard velocity decks.

The posts on the single coil deck are offset to one side, which provides a large amount of space for your coil.

In addition to this feature, the airflow hole, which is 4.5mm in diameter, sits directly below the coil and has two alternative inserts which can be removed or added to adjust the amount of airflow passing over the coil, making it more suited for ‘Mouth To Lung’ styled vaping.

An excellent feature.

Overall, the design of the Merlin Mini is well thought out yet simplistic!

And all components are well machined and can be unscrewed easily with excellent threading, for cleaning and building.

How Does The Augvape Merlin Mini?

Coiling & wicking on both decks of the Merlin Mini was incredibly easy, more so on the single coil deck thanks to the large amount of real estate available.

If you’re going to use the single coil deck I would suggest setting up your airflow prior to installing your coil as it can be tricky to install and remove the airflow inserts once the coil is in place.

With regards to wicking, I personally found it best to keep your cotton light & fluffy and not to push all the cotton down into the juice holes, but enough to stop any flooding and still ensuring good juice flow.

And while we’re on the subject of juice flow, the juice flow control doesn’t seem to do anything on the Merlin Mini. I used several different VG/PG ratios in the tank, 80/20 being the highest, and even with the juice flow closed off the cotton wicked.

Figure that one out!! I’ll mention more about wicking and juice flow later.

What I Liked

For me personally, the star of the show is the single coil deck in the Merlin Mini.

The offset posts provide a wealth of space on the deck allowing you to install some very large and complex coil builds.

When it wicks properly, the flavour production from this RTA is pretty good particularly on the single coil deck. Vapour production was pretty much as expected considering the coil & e-Liquid used.

Aesthetically, the Merlin Mini is a great looking well constructed RTA.

Did I mention that it’s really shiny!!

What I Didn’t Like

I mentioned earlier that I would say something about wicking & juice flow! Boy, did I have a lot of wicking/dry hit issues with this RTA.

Initially, this seemed to be caused by the small gap between the glass tank and the build deck outer housing which is incredibly narrow and restricted the natural flow of E-liquid.

I spent an incredible amount of time re-wicking the coil with different styles of wick.

Turned out in the end it wasn’t anything to do with the wick it was air trapped in the tank caused by a slight build-up of pressure when the top cap was screwed back on to the tank.

To resolve this I would fill the tank as normal and replace the top cap but only giving it a single complete turn, then turned the tank upside down and screw the top cap firmly into place.

This had the effect of forcing the trapped air out of the tank through the juice holes…. Issue resolved.

My other gripe with the Merlin Mini is that it is supposed to be ‘Mouth To Lung’ compatible due to the fact that it comes with interchangeable inserts to restrict airflow, which is fantastic if your preference is MTL.

However Augvape have missed the fact that the wide bore drip tip is not really suited to MTL and possibly could have included something more appropriate.

But you can of course use your own MTL / small bore drip tips.

Final Review Verdict

Overall, the Augvape Merlin Mini is a good piece of vaping hardware.

The star of this atomizer being the single coil velocity style deck with its very generous space allowing you to install some very big and complex builds.

Also, Augvape have gone some way to considering Mouth To Lung (MTL) vapers by including the airflow inserts allowing the user to fine tune their vaping experience.

Hats off to you Augvape, a very nice addition.

Wotofo Bravo RTA Reviewed

Wotofo Bravo RTA 6ml

Introduction To The Wotofo Bravo RTA

Today we are looking at the Wotofo Bravo RTA – A collaboration between Wotofo and Aaron Hart, the owner of 5Bravo who is not a vaping celebrity like usual collaborations by Wotofo, but a huge vaping enthusiast! So let’s see what the two combined forces come up with!

The Wotofo Bravo RTA is a 25mm RTA with three (yes THREE) different e-liquid capacities straight out of the box. They are 2ml, 4.5 and 6ml which are achievable by changing the glass as well as the use of a silicone bung.

How did I get on with it? Find out in my written and video review!

Currently priced at $36.99 to $38.99 on the Wotofo website, The Bravo RTA is available in six different finishes which are Stainless Steel, Black, Gun Metal, Blue, Gold and Rainbow, but today I will be looking at the gold Version.

As always my opinions are honest and my own.

What’s In The Box

  • 1 x Bravo RTA
  • User Manual
  • Standard Glass
  • Bubble Glass
  • 510 Drip Tip Adapter
  • Japanese Cotton
  • Bag of Spares
  • Comp Wire Coils

Features

  • 25mm Diameter
  • Stainless steel construction
  • Increased vapour production & flavour comparable to a RDA
  • Floating deck
  • Clamped post design, which is more appropriate for flat wires
  • Less threading on cap, quicker to refill
  • Compatible with 810 / 510 drip tip (510 adapter included)
  • The banked airflow design helps concentrate the airflow, giving better flavor
  • 510 threading connection

We’ll start from the top and make our way down the RTA…

The Drip Tip:

The drip tip is 810 sized and made from resin. With this gold version we have a clear resin with lots of gold flake in it. It is secured into the top cap with a single o-ringBravo-RTA-DripTip

The Top Fill:

Below the drip tip, we have the top cap and top fill ports. What I have noticed with the top cap is that it screws on/off with just a single turn, which is great for easy and quick refilling!Bravo-RTA-Filling

The fill ports come in the form of two absolutely HUGE kidney shaped holes. I can confirm that I have had no problems whatsoever with filling this tank up.

The Chamber:

The chamber or barrel as I like to call it, is a thing of beauty! Milled from a single piece of stainless steel and plated in gold, it just looks amazing in the centre of the tank.

With ‘Bravo’ engraved into the side of it as well as some knurling, it is not too in your face, but it’s a beautiful centrepiece.Bravo-rta-barrel

Inside the chamber it is domed for that exceptional flavour experience, and has some super smooth threading to connect it to the build deck below.Bravo-RTA-Barrel-Inner

Focus On www.urvapin.com For Best Vape Tanks.

The Build Deck & Base:

The deck on the Bravo RTA is beautifully made, and in this gold version, the deck is also gold plated for that extra touch of elegance and style.

It features a 2 post deck design, with what I would describe as an “upside down Goon clamp system”. Basically, rather than the clamps being screwed down from the top, they are being screwed up from the bottom. And with two screws on each post, it makes installing flat wire builds an absolute dream! Regular coil builds are a bit tricky, but it definitely is doable!Bravo-RTA-Deck1

Below the posts we have the ‘floating deck’ which is similar to the Serpent SMM, but obviously has extra holes to accommodate the dual coil build.

The airflow on the Wotofo Bravo RTA comes in the form of two large slots that are controlled with a knurled airflow adjustment ring. It is loose enough to move when you want it to, but stays in place when it’s in a pocket.Bravo-RTA-Airflow

Different Capacities of The Bravo RTA

2ml TPD Compliant: Original Glass + Silicone BungBravo-RTA-2ml

4.5ml: Original Glass with bung removedBravo-RTA 4.5ml

How Does the Wotofo Bravo RTA Perform?

On this RTA, I’ve been using the included coils, which come out to roughly 0.11Ω on the Coil Master 521 Mini Tab.Bravo-RTA-Coil

Ease Of Build On The Bravo RTA

So lets go through a step-by-step guide to building on the Wotofo Bravo RTA

Firstly, unscrew all four post screws to lower the clamp system down.Bravo-rta-screw

Choose a coil to put in on one side, align it over the chimney and cut off the excess legs. Repeat this on the other side with the other coil.Bravo-RTA-Single-Coil

Now comes the tricky part. Keeping the coils in place whilst winding the clamps up. Now this is a little bit of trial and error, but if the coils are in the incorrect place, you can easily unwind one side and reposition.

Once the coils are in place, start pinching and pulsing to get the coils heating evenly from the inside out. When they are, leave to cool for a few minutes before inserting your wick.Bravo-RTA-Pulse

Now grab your favourite cotton, poke it through the coils and trim the excess just outside of the outer edge of the deck. This gives you enough to poke through the holes in the floating deck.Bravo-RTA-Cut-Wick

Make sure that the holes are nicely plugged up to prevent any flooding of the build deck.Bravo-RTA-Wicked

Next, build the Bravo RTA back up and fill with your favourite e-Liquid!

Flavour & Clouds

The flavour… Amazing. I would say that the Bravo RTA has been one of the best flavour RTA’s I have ever tried. And it is good across all the flavour ranges, so the menthols are mentholy, the custards are thick and creamy and the fruits are just jam packed full of flavour!

As for clouds. They’re pretty good! With the low ohm build and large airflow holes, you are getting some nice, dense clouds coming from this RTA, especially at the high wattages.

Pros

  • Looks Great
  • Amazing Airflow
  • Beautiful Flavour
  • Multiple Colour Options
  • Multiple Capacity Options

Cons

  • Suited more towards flat wire builds
  • Slightly awkward to clamp down coils

Final Review Verdict

The Wotofo Bravo RTA is awesome. I honestly can’t really say much more about it. Beautifully made, well manufactured and designed with flavour chasers in mind.

Obviously a little awkward to build on, but with a little bit of practice, it becomes easier.

Herakles Plus Review (2018) – The Most Unique Vape on the Market Today!

There are a lot of vaporizers to choose from, and while having a wide selection of possible purchases is great, it can often make it difficult to decide why one particular vape is better than everything else that you’ve got access to.

While working on this Sense Herakles Plus review, I knew right away that this was a vaporizer that clearly distinguished itself from pretty much every other vape that’s on the market. A lot of this is thanks to the Herakles Plus’s unique airflow system that I haven’t seen on any other vaporizer before this, and while that might not sound like a lot right now, you’ll see just why this is a big deal as I move through the article.

The Herakles Plus has been creating for quite a lot of buzz and talk online as of late, and with that being the case, I figured that now would be the perfect time to finally conduct my review of what this vape has to offer.

So, without any further delay, here’s my full Herakles Sense Plus Review.

Herakles Plus Ratings

Herakles Plus Review

herakles plus review

One of the big selling points for the Herakles Plus has to do with its top airflow system that’s being used. This system sounds interesting enough on paper, but when put to the test, it works beautifully with the tank to create for truly fantastic flavors and vapor clouds alike.

There are plenty of options for sub-ohm vaping as well, and when you add all of this together, it starts to become clear as to why I had such a great time with this review.

Focus On www.ave40.com For More Vape Tank.

Pros

Top Airflow Without A Reduction In Flavor

Airflow that happens at the top of a vape isn’t an entirely new concept, but the way that it is usually implemented creates for some tradeoffs. In most case, top airflow systems with sub ohm tanks have this mechanism built directly into the drip tips that are present in the vape. This causes extra airflow to not come into contact with the coil, and while it does keep vapor cool, it also affects the taste of your liquid as well – and not in a positive manner.

With the airflow system that’s used on the Herakles Plus, the air that’s taken from the top of the unit goes through its own independent chamber at the top of the coil that doesn’t effect your flavor in the slightest. It’s something I haven’t seen before, but after doing an extensive Sense Herakles Plus tank review, I’d definitely like to see this sort of system make its way to other products.

Extensive Control Over The Flow Of Your Juice

Along with my tank review, something else that really caught my eye with this vaporizer has to do with the juice flow controls that are present here as well. These controls allow you to adjust the flow of the juice inside of the Herakles Plus, allowing you to let juice flow at full speed, close it off slightly if you’re using a higher PG type of juice, and shut it off entirely for when you’re refilling the vape.

Fantastic Flavor And Cloud Reproduction

In addition to my extensive tank review, I also thought that it was worth conducting a Herakles Plus coils review. Coils that are used in a vaporizer will either make or break your experience with it, and I’m very happy to report that the Herakles Plus 0.4ohm Kanthal coil that’s used here is absolutely wonderful.

The flavors I was able to get out of the Herakles Plus all tasted fantastic. Flavor notes were strong without being overpowering, and I was able to pick up on all of the ingredients that were present in the juice I tried.

To go along with this, the Herakles Plus is able to kick out some truly ridiculous clouds. This isn’t all that surprising for a sub ohm tank, but even when used at the 40-50W setting, the Herakles Plus still manages to produce simply massive heaps of vapor – a real plus if you like to show off your cloud-making skills.

Cons

Small Tank Capacity

One of the biggest issues I discovered while conducting my Sense Herakles Plus Tank review has to do with the actual capacity and size of tank that’s being used here. Sense opted for just a 3.5ml tank, and while it should be enough for light to moderate users, it’s definitely going to seem quite a bit small the more you increase your use with the Herakles Plus.

The Herakles Plus also has a tendency to eat through juice rather quickly, and this doesn’t really mesh that well with the small tank size. Adding an extra 1.5 or even 1ml of added tank space would have gone a long way to making the Herakles Plus a lot more enjoyable to use, and if you’re someone who tends to vape quite frequently, this is certainly something you’ll want to keep in mind before throwing your money down.

Noticeable Spit-Back

Spit-back is something else I encountered along with the small tank capacity, and this is never a pleasant thing to encounter with any vaporizer. I tried using a couple of different coils with the Herakles Plus, and each one produced some level of spit-back.

Along with not tasting the greatest, the juice you’re using can get quite hot when using the Herakles Plus at higher wattages – possibly causing for a burned tongue. The spit-back tended to go away after getting through about 1/3 of the bottles I used, but even at that, it’s still a rather annoying aspect you’ll need to put up with.

Top Features of Herakles Plus

Top Fill Design

As annoying as the small tank capacity is, something I am glad to have found while conducting my review is the fact that a top fill design is being used here. Refilling the vape with juice is a very simple process, and the top fill nature of it means that it’s always readily accessible no matter what you’re doing.

Conclusion

With all of that said and done, where does that put us with my review? There’s no doubt at all that Sense has crafted a really fantastic product here, and there’s quite a lot going for this thing. As annoying as the small tank capacity and frequent spit-back is, there sort of get evened out when you consider the vaporizer’s awesome production of clouds and flavor and excellent top airflow design. If you need a new sub-ohm vape, this is definitely worth a look.

Cobra Sub Ohm Tank by ASVAPE review

Cobra Sub Ohm Tank by ASVAPE

The Cobra is the latest Sub Ohm tank from Chinese manufacturer ASVAPE. It is 22mm in diameter featuring a top filling design, a 3.8ml juice capacity and adjustable airflow. So let’s dive right in and see exactly what it has to offer you!

Cobra Sub Ohm Tank features

  • Height: 42.2mm.
  • Diameter: 22mm.
  • Weight: 39.88g
  • Dual Cyclops Style Adjustable Airflow Slots.
  • Stainless Steel 304 and Pyrex Glass Construction.
  • PCM Drip Tip.

What’s in the box?

  • 1x Cobra Sub Ohm Tank.
  • 1x PCM Drip Tip.
  • 1x 0.5ohm Ni80 Coil (Pre-Fitted).
  • 1x Replacement 0.5ohm Ni80 Coil.
  • Spare O-rings.
  • Spare Glass Tube.
  • Instruction Card.

Cobra Sub Ohm Tank styling and build quality

The Cobra is a reasonably compact atomizer being 22mm in diameter and 42.2mm in height. The 304 Stainless Steel construction is excellent overall, with decent threading, no sharp edges and it feels very durable. The Pyrex glass is pretty solid and should you ever have an accident, the box does include replacement glass.

The design is quite stylish and it tends to look really good on most mods it is fitted to. There are three logos on the Cobra but all of them are very subtle and neatly done. The tank comes with a pre-fitted PCM drip tip which is slightly tapered but since the tank features a standard 510 drip tip fitting, I personally preferred to use my Kayfun 5 drip tip.

Much like other compact tanks we have seen of late the coil is fitted almost directly under the drip tip with only a short chimney existing between them, as you would expect this does help to promote better flavour.

Compared to other coils the Ni80 ones included with the Cobra have an interesting wicking design and feature multiple small holes instead of a couple of large wicking holes or slots. The capacity is fairly generous and the tank holds 3.8ml of E-Liquid, thankfully refilling is simple due to the top filling design.

Focus On www.urvapin.com For Best Vape Tanks.

Airflow

The airflow offers a nice amount of variation and the Cobra can be vaped as a slightly restrictive direct lung inhale or heavily dialled down to the point where you can vape it as a mouth to lung vape. The adjustment ring works well but can be a bit awkward to turn when the Cobra is fitted to some mods, particularly my Lost Vape Therion and ASVAPE’s Michael Mod. In my opinion the ring would benefit from some knurling but it certainly isn’t a deal breaker.

Ease of use

Replacing coils is really easy and the included instruction card will be useful if you are new to vaping. Refilling is simple and it’s a case of unscrewing the top cap and squeezing your juice in before replacing the cap. The top cap is very secure and the threading is good, but I did think that a small amount of knurling would make it a little easier to grip, of course it’s not a major issue.

How does it vape?

I filled up the tank with some Double Drip Sun Drip E-Liquid and I found that the Ni80 0.5ohm coil was certainly a very satisfying vape at 32 Watts. Flavour was very clean, and most pleasant in terms of quality. The vapour production was rather generous for such a small tank and in my opinion it will certainly be sufficient for typical vapers, though the cloud chasing brigade would probably prefer much more.

One thing I really liked about this tank was the airflow variation because the draw itself was very smooth and you can dial it down to a respectable mouth to lung vape, but most of the time I happily vaped it fully opened up.

Despite the coil featuring multiple tiny holes rather than a typical coils wicking slots, I had no issues at all when using Double Drip Max VG E-Liquid. The capacity is more than sufficient so you don’t constantly feel like you are refilling it.

Conclusion

All in all I feel that the Cobra is a very well-made tank that offers an enjoyable vape at a sensible Wattage. I could not fault the flavour, or the vapour production so it would be well worth picking up if it appeals to you!

Many thanks to ASVAPE who kindly sent this product to Planet of the Vapes for us to review.

Hellvape Anglo RDA Preview | Focus on Flavor

Hellvape Anglo RDA intro

Hellvape is back with a new flavor-chasing RDA. Following on the heels of the Dead Rabbit and the Dead Rabbit SQ, Hellvape is taking this one in a new direction. The Anglo RDA, which seems to take its name from the angled airflow system it employs, is going to be designed by Dukun Vape, an Indonesian vape gear promoter.

Hellvape Anglo RDA features

Hellvape-anglo-RDA3
  • Full 316SS 24 mm diameter and 29 mm beauty ring
  • Face to face dual clamps
  • Adjustable bottom diagonal restricted airflow
  • Single or dual coil configuration
  • Gold plated positive and bottom feeder pin for squonking

RDA Confidential

Hellvape-anglo-RDA2

Not much is known about the Hellvape Anglo RDA other than the feature list provided by Hellvape and a couple of pics that surfaced recently. What I can say so far is the Anglo has an impressive-looking design, almost like it’s a high-end RDA. And the deck looks to be all about flavor-chasing with its side-fed airflow that comes in from under the coil(s).

The Anlgo also appears to be an easy build. Wires are trapped by two horizontal clamp-style posts secured by protruding flat head screws. And the deck is large enough for exotic coils in single or dual configuration using thin or thick wire. Another nice feature is that Hellvape added coiling-rod cutouts on the deck so builds can be perfectly placed every time.

The Anglo RDA has a high-end look, but will be going for around $40.

One feature that we don’t see every day is a removable 24 mm airflow ring which can be replaced by a 29 mm airflow/beauty ring. I don’t think I have ever seen a beauty ring of this diameter before but I bet it will be appreciated by vapers who enjoy using larger mods.

The date of release has not been announced yet, but the RDA has been made available for pre-order on some vendors’ websites for around $40. Even though there is limited information on the project, the high-end design of the Anglo along with its affordable price tag make Hellvape’s follow-up to the Dead Rabbit series seem like a very promising RDA.

What do you think? Will Anglo RDA be a worthy successor to the Dead Rabbit? Let us know in the comment section.

Geekvape sent me the new Zeus Dual RTA to review and I must say thank you to them for sending me one

First off its beefy! I’ve not much experience with RTA’s but this seems large and wide, would be even wider with the bubble glass on! I received the blue version of the Zeus & it really is good-looking design wise and quality is brilliant as I am finding with many Geekvape products. They don’t bang out stuff with little thought, everything is well made, functional, user-friendly and designed impeccably.

My Zeus is the 4ml version and only came with a spare glass no bubble but I believe the latest batch do come with the bubble glass. A big bag of spares including drip tips, seals, screws & coils among other bits and pieces.

So let’s do some specifications:GeekVape-ZEUS-Dual-Colors

  • Dual Coil version of the Zeus RTA
  • Leak-proof top airflow
  • Postless deck that supports dual and single coil builds
  • compatible with 810 & 510 drip tips
  • Bubble glass makes it 5.5ml
  • Dimensions are:
    • 38.9mm in height without drip tip with 810 drip tip it is 50.4mm
    • 25mm wide with standard 4ml glass & 29mm with bubble glass
  • TPD version is 4ml but has a rubber bung to make it 2ml (remove bung and it will be 4ml)
  • Gold plated 510 pin
  • Colours available are: Steel, gun-metal, Black, Blue, Red & Black, Rainbow, Polished Steel & Gold.

How does it perform?

Ease of useGeekvape Zeus Dual RTA

The deck is pretty fiddly. The grub screws are tiny and if you unscrew too far they fall out and I was searching for a few minutes to find it lol It is pretty easy to install coils though and I got some nice aliens in from BGP Coils. Bit of guess-work on working out leg length but I’m sure once you are used to it I doubt it would be a problem. The airflow holes where they come up at the side of the deck does make it a bit of a faff to straighten the coils.

The wick holes are pretty small so fitting 2 lengths of cotton even thinned out was a squeeze but it could be some smaller diameter coils would not cause so much of a problem. I opted for my wick to touch the bottom of the deck as I took some advice from someone who used the single coil and they said that with the wick touching the base was the best he found. I opted for Cotton Candy to wick with which is fabulous for soaking up juice.

Adjusting the airflow is pretty stiff but over time I imagine it becomes a little looser. The filling holes are nice and big so easy to fill but the cap does need a little concentration. It seems to need to be lined up properly before it’ll screw down but once on its on, it is tight. The top of the cap has a rubber seal to again prevent leaks. I let the juice soak in and no leaks after an hour of sitting and drawing in the juice. I was extra careful about making sure everything was tight as I put it together.

Flavour

Flavour is amazing! It’s weird I use RDA’s all the time, I rarely use a tank these days but lately the tanks I’ve tried the flavour has been brilliant. The Zeus has made the flavour a bit sharper and brighter than my RDA. You can taste the juicy blackcurrant’s! I know a lot of flavour comes from the coils and my coils are beautifully made and ultrasonic cleaned but this RTA is outstanding. The airflow I think helps as its going down the chamber and straight under the coils. This flow of air seems to really bring out fruity flavours. Scores highly for flavour!

Geekvape Zeus Dual RTA

Cloud Production/Airflow

I find with top airflow the cloud production is never massive even hitting the 110w it’s not billowing clouds just enough to feel satisfied. The flow of air means it goes down the chamber, under the coils and then up the centre. This mean the air is cool as you inhale and is slightly restricted. I took it to 130W on my .10 aliens and it did start to warm up a little but still pretty cool in comparison to a RDA or a stock coil tank.

Conclusion

Flavour wise this is brilliant and provides a rich and flavourful vape. To me it wasn’t a cloud machine but the amount at 130W was plenty for me and I like being a dry ice machine usually! So gives enough to satisfy. There was no leaks at all so it lives up to its claims. Also I am a little cautious of dry hits but I had none which is a bonus! Different drip tips didn’t seem to effect it much to be honest so I stuck to the one that comes installed.

I had a few little issues with it though. It had a tendency to spit when I took a long hit. I had it at high enough watts to not spit from not getting to temperature so it does seem to flood, however I am not an expert at wicking RTA’s so I would imagine this is probably down to my wicking. The little problems with the deck that I’ve already mentioned but again this is just personal and I don’t think this is an issue for most people who own the RTA, it’s my fat fingers and lack of precision!

Geekvape Zeus Dual RTA

Feedback on the group from what I have read is good. A few people have mentioned it spitting but the majority and I mean 99% love their Zeus and swear by it.

I don’t think you can go wrong if you want an RTA that looks bomb-proof and performs well. This is not a dainty piece of kit but it really is a great addition to a collection. I think the issues I have had are mine and not the RTA’s fault. You must remember I review on my experience and everyone’s opinion is different.

Excellent RTA!

iJoy Combo RDTA 2 Reviewed: A Leak-free RDTA!

Introduction – The Combo RDTA 2 by iJoy

The chances are, if you’re a vaper, that you’ve heard of iJoy or used at least one of their huge range of products.

iJoy is one of vaping’s biggest names on the back of outstanding design, true innovation and regular releases. They’ve introduced 20700 batteries to the vaping world with their recent release of the Captain PD270…which is undoubtedly one of the finest mods I’ve ever owned.

I’m a big fan of this Shenzhen brand and I’m not the only one, almost any RDTA user will be familiar, to some extent, with the iJoy Limitless RDTA range, as well as with the original Combo RDTA, yet another innovation from this outstanding brand.

This first for RDTA’s was a high capacity RDTA with a range of 6 interchangeable build decks…truly versatile, it was hugely popular and it’s easy to understand why, but it had its problems, some worrisome 510 issues and a tendency to leak, which is my pet hate when it comes to RDTAs and the reason I’ve never been too big on them.

Yet, the iJoy Combo RDTA 2, which looks almost exactly the same on the surface, is a vape engineering miracle and by far the most hassle free RDTA I’ve laid hands on. Let me take you through the ins and outs of this fantastic piece of vape gear.

Build Quality & Design

Well, on opening up the top notch plastic Combo 2 box, I’m met with a lovely sight.

The 54mm high, 25mm wide Combo 2 RDTA is a thing of beauty. I have the black version (there’s black, rainbow, red and gunmetal) and the first difference I notice between this and the original combo is the gold colored base.

The original had the gold colored filling ring and plated decks but this one has a lot more gold to be seen and the colors just pop and together with the gold colored ULTEM goon style/wide bore drip tip, it’s just a knockout.

I remove it from it’s snug packaging to inspect and am instantly impressed by the perfect give on all the o-rings when I begin to dismantle it…all except the ULTEM tip, which might fool you into thinking it’s not removable, so tight is the fit.

The 25mm base features a good looking, easily adjustable 510 pin that can also be removed to swap out your IMC decks, which are interchangeable throughout Combo 1 and 2.

The base is really nonexistent as far as grip goes so when you’re screwing this in and out of your mod, you might have a tendency to grip the glass, don’t. Sometimes that Pyrex will turn all on its lonesome, rather take a hold on the shiny refill band to screw in and out.

The two big o-rings peeping through the glass at the base look great against the gold and also allow for both snug fit and easy removal, they’re very high quality o-rings, perfectly sized.

The 25mm diameter, combined with the 54mm height make this a great fit for your bigger mods, I’ve got in on the Captain PD270 and it’s a match made in Heaven.

The top cap, which in the iJoy Combo V2 is slightly extended and boasts that wide bore ULTEM tip, comes off wth perfect ease, superb o-rings, excellent machining and a great, solid stainless steel construction.

Now, the brand lists a rounded internal top cap as a feature but while I see some good space there, to cut down spit back, I see not much rounding, nevertheless.

The top cap has a stepped edge and is super easy to turn in order to adjust the massive cyclops style dual airflow slots on the barrel. Each airflow slot is 1,3 mm thick and a full 1,5 cm long. When your airflow is open and you’ve not fitted coils, you can look clear through the device. Adjustment resistance is perfect, you won’t need to juice these rings.

The barrel is emblazoned with that Combo RDTA coat of arms in white, which looks very stylish, if you ask me.

Now I pull off the barrel, also with the perfect amount of give, thanks to accurate machining and two big, black, top quality o-rings which cut through the bright gold, closing off that central fill ring to make you feel like you’ve won the lottery.

In between those two o-rings on one side you’ll see an ample juice fill slot, which, when the ring is fitted in place, sits on the one side in between where your wicking should hang, at least with this deck, which should help minimize mess.

There’s a little juice symbol on the always-visible band of the refill ring so that you always know where your port is.

This refilling ring unscrews with ease (great rings again), after which you can also easily remove the pyrex. Removing this ring will make wicking a breeze when it comes down to building.

The IMC 10 deck is pre-installed and is easy to remove with a loosening or unscrewing of the 510 pin, after which it just twists out so that you can fit any of the other build decks or one of the pre-made coils. The deck is shiny as hell in 24K gold plate.

You can swap out with any of the original 6 IMC decks or the 4 new ones, not to mention the two pre made coils, in 0.15 and 0.3 Ohm. Plus, you can fit an optional RDA base… it’s versatile.ijoy combo rdta 2 decks

All these IMC decks utilize a very intelligent wicking system, whereby there’s no need to wangle wicking through holes drilled in your deck.

The wicking ports are essentially cutouts on the sides of your deck and it’s your refilling ring that seals them off, if you catch my drift. It’s a pleasure when it comes time to combing out your wicks and laying them down. It’s clever and easy to use and I wish that all RDTAs had it.

The IMC 10 deck features what’s been termed the snag clamp system. I don’t really get the name but I suppose it’s catchy. The deck is basically identical to the popular Druga RDA deck from Augvape and features dual posts with open, single slots on each which are sealed off by fully removable thumb screws.

The upside of this is the fact that you hardly need to use your tools, it’s a pleasure for beginners and the massive slots accommodate some pretty heavy duty and exotic coils.

Those who loved the Druga will love this and those who didn’t at least have the option of swapping out for any of 10 other IMC build decks.

The build and design quality looks superb, I can’t wait to get a build on this thing and there is a good looking couple of fused Claptons in the pack, I’m looking forward to discovering their resistance, as that’s a detail that doesn’t figure on the packaging.

I guess it depends on how you build, hehe.

Accessories

I’m very happy with the provision of both a flat head and Phillips screw driver, as well as an extra 510 pin and that single coil plug which is easy to fit onto your deck for a nice big-ass single birds nest if you like.

I would have liked to see the inclusion of another deck option here, plus…most certainly an RDA base. It would have been generous but all round, this is such a great RDTA, I’m not even bothered about accessories.

Oh, also…the cotton could have been better, if you like to pull off your flatties… the cotton will prove to little unless you combine strips but hello, nitpicking alert. I mean, really.

How Does The iJoy Combo 2 RDTA Perform?

Let me just say that I’ve never been good friends with RDTAs, not because I don’t like building but because I cannot abide leaking, my brain completely short circuits when I have a leaky device and in a house full of cats and dogs, I don’t like a tank that’s likely to leak when you turn it on it’s side.iJoy Combo RDTA 2 on mod

Praise the Lord, this is one of the cleanest RDTAs around, I have left it full to the brim and lying on its side for hours, upside down, you name it…not one leak.

In my opinion, the design is flawless and the Combo 2 RDTA can safely join the ranks of the iJoy Limitless Plus as a hassle free, leak free pleasure to fill and refill and vape to your satisfaction.

Of course, you’ll need to give it a nice full wick that’s neither too long or too short to achieve this as, chances are, there’s a shabby wicker out there who’ll manage to get it to leak, no offense meant…vaping is a learning process.

The airflow on this RDTA is out of this world, if you want the perfect, warm and restricted lung hit go for half airflow and to get totally hit in the face with airflow, open those cyclops eyes up full, wow.

RDTAs are almost always flavor hitters but with this airflow, it’s next level. I don’t use a huge amount flavor concentrate in my very high VG, DIY e-liquid mixes but when I get the true complexity of my flavors coming through, like I do here, then I know I’ve struck gold.

This device, with the included IMC 3 coils or the IMC 10 and included fused captions, is an outstanding vape with flavor and cloud through the roof and airflow to die for…not to mention sheer ease of build, top notch give on all the o-rings and absolutely no leaking.

Hands down, this is one of my favorite tanks in a very long time and definitely my favorite RDTA.

How To Fill The iJoy Combo RDTA 2

Simply pull off that central barrel just above the gold refilling band and stick your nozzle or dropper into the slot above the Drip symbol while the tank is on its side.
Fill to capacity because this tank doesn’t leak.

How To Change the Coil-head/Build Deck

  • Remove the barrel where the logo is to reveal the build deck.
  • Unscrew the gold refill ring.
  • Remove the Pyrex.
  • Loosen the 510 pin at the base with a flat head screwdriver (that’s counter-clockwise.)
  • Now you’ll see the deck or coil head just twists out of the central shaft.
  • Fit your desired head or deck.
  • Replace the 510 pin, screwing in properly.
  • Replace all parts.

Stock Coil Performance

The IMC Coil 3 is a triple horizontal coil head with heavy wicking. It has a 0.15 Ohm resistance and offers a powerful vape in the 60-100W range. I found the sweet spot to be right at 85W and neither the flavor nor the airflow can compare to the self build system, it’s still one hell of a coil head though.

I find the wicking a bit raw, so you might benefit from a slight comb out which will aid your absorption a bit.

Also, if you have a really itty bitty screw driver you can undo the base of that pre-made coil head and swap that wicking out altogether, which should go a long way to improving your flavor, especially if you have a cotton brand that you’re partial to.

The pre-made coil is all round a great vape for when I run out of coils to use on the huge selection of build decks but hey, that might never happen. Still, the pre-built coils on this RDTA vape better than a good number of popular sub-ohm tank coil heads.

The IMC 10 deck with the included fused captions, which read at 0.17 initially and later settled at 0.2 Ohms, is a vaping dream. I found my special spot for these between 90 and 110 W on a half open airflow for a warm, restricted lung hit. Yum. Massive cloud, killer flavor. Thank you very much.

Ease of build

Before I harp on about the IMC 10 deck, this RDTA itself, with any IMC deck, makes building easy, the wicking port design is perfect and super easy to wick. Also the 25 mm diameter is ample and spacious.

As for IMC 10 and the clamp snag business…some don’t like it because the little metal bits astride the terminal slots have a tendency (at least they did on Augvape’s Druga) to get wonky, bend or snap off all together over time, if you’re rough with them or if you try to squeeze in to much coil action.

I never experienced this myself and for me, I only have praise for this deck as I think it’s a great design for beginners to the RDTA and building world, hassle free as it is with massive slots and huge thumb screws.

What I Liked

I LOVE the aesthetics with the gold detail. I LOVE the versatility and massive selection of optional decks, sold separately, as well as prebuilt coil heads and the RBA base, which should have been included.

I like the ease of build on IMC 10 and the wicking port design. I like how easy it is to swap out decks and the perfect tension on all the o-rings. I LOVE the airflow, open and smooth as can be. I LOVE the lack of spit back and leaking. I just thoroughly enjoy using the iJoy Combo RDTA 2!

What I Dislike

I’d have liked to see another deck in the pack and an RBA base. The ULTEM drip tip sits very, very tight. Is it really necessary to find fault? Nah! I’m thoroughly impressed by the Combo 2 RDTA.

Final Review Verdict

What a top notch RDTA for beginners and serious vapers alike.

A near endless variety of deck styles and options with ample space and ease of use on the included deck. The airflow and flavor is a smooth knockout and the perfect tension on all the o-rings make dismantling, cleaning, building, filling all so easy.

I’m delighted with how mess free this RDTA is and with the fact that I’ve not spilled a drop of juice. The size, fit and looks are also an absolute killer. I highly recommend it, wishing I could add more stars to the 5.

Would I buy the iJoy Combo RDTA 2 if I lost it? I think I’ll be buying a rainbow one too, maybe even a red one…before I have chance to lose it.
